The biggest IT security conference, RSA 2020 has sadly come to an end. Thousands of people from all over the world attended to share their knowledge, network, and learn new things. The event was filled with exciting guest speakers, fun learning events, and awesome networking opportunities. Around the conference, attendees visited booths, attended talks and some even took on the most epic challenge there was. Unisys held a Capture the Flag Challenge. The challenge was to see if hackers had what it took to hack into their Stealth™ environment, a challenge that seemed virtually impossible.
Nonetheless, 21 people took on the challenge in hopes that they would be the winner who took home $10,000. Compromising Unisys Stealth® is a daunting challenge. “Before coming here, I thought it wasn’t going to be hard. Now, it feels very well implemented and I need to rethink my strategy,” stated Priyal Shah. If hacking into the environment isn’t hard enough, these IT professionals only had three hours to successfully complete the challenge. It was clear that everyone wanted to win that $10,000, but the challenge was much harder than they expected. Wally Ly said, “We learned A LOT… standard tools don’t work anymore.”
After two sessions at three hours each, the clock ran out of time. There were no winners who captured the flag. The attendees gave it their all, they all thought they would be the one taking home $10,000.“The event was incredibly well put together, however Stealth is very frustrating! I have been doing CTF events for 12 years and this is one CTF that has stumped me from the very beginning” said Nicholas Frangia. If the money couldn’t go home with one of the many amazing people that attempted the challenge, we were happy that $10,000 went to Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) in support of their Veteran’s Assistance Program.
Unisys is looking to hold more Capture the Flag challenges soon! IT professionals should be on the look-out for more events in the following months of 2020.
